Jason Buckner with CDWS joined us in class last week to discuss the ePortfolio and provide an overview on navigating and building the ePortfolio. In class, I indicated there were 5 tutorials covering the following topics:
1) Using the Matrix
2) Creating Your About Me Page
3) Making Headlines
4) Making Your Online Resume
5) Creating Your Presentation
Do The Following:
1) Log into myUCF. Toward the top of the page you will see grey-colored tabs, the last one on the right is labeled "Online Course Tools."
2) Click on the Online Course Tools tab.
3) Scroll toward the bottom of the page and locate the "ePortfolio@UCF" section on the right side.
4) Watch all five tutorials (or read the .pdf files) by clicking the green-colored film strip icon or clicking the red and white PDF icon to the right of each topic - making sure to practice the tutorials until you are familiar with the content discussed in each tutorial.
In the comments section, post any questions you may have based on reviewing the tutorials.

I really don't have any questions as of now other then if we need to is there any place we can sit with someone and get technical support? I do request that they make the tutorials a little more lively!!! I think they were informative but talk about bland material.
ReplyDeleteThe tutorials are rigid prose providing the minimum steps required for each procedure. In the presentation of the 'forms' concept, what standard are the forms set to, and can other 'livelier' mediums such as animated files, java objects, or Adobe/Apple video clips be used within the context of the ePortfolio?
ReplyDeleteEven though the information in the tutorials is 'matter of fact,'I wonder on the depth of thi systemology. More information leaning towards HTML, DHTML,XML, and Java would help for more flexible creativity for those inclined, providing such capability exists.
These tutorials are perfunctory at best. One cannot expect to be “e-Portfolio-Literate” after a lecture which jumped from cells to matrices, etc.—without at least a handout of our potentially expected e-Portfolio Requirements listed—so we could visualize what could be loaded/designed into e-Portfolio for Capstone Requirement.
ReplyDelete…Without “direct e-Portfolio practice on our e-Portfolio Assignment”--I cannot come up with a question until I “actually do this assignment”—this question is too premature. To me it’s like driving, you have to ‘experience behind the wheel [keyboard]’ before the critical thinking-related questions will surface, to feel equipped to navigate on our own and know where all the Requirement Cells are…
In previous classes where a new technological tool--which had to be mastered enough to merit a weighted grade--the Professor had an Expert help the students hands-on workshop style…
For example, 1) give brief lecture; 2) then help each person individually so their level of experience could be brought up to expectations—just a class dedicated to hands-on navigation vis-à-vis the Rubric for e-Portfolio requirements. Not all of us are that computer literate, and have different levels of e-portfolio from stiff tutorials.
I’d love an e-Portfolio Workshop in our classroom with an expert to go around the class to help (if we are given some time to get these assignments completed before uploaded)—This should be an easy workshop for us particularly since our classroom is already stocked with computers—Why not?
I do not have any questions as of now, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any questions about eportfolio.
ReplyDeleteI do not have any questions at this time about
ReplyDeletee-portfolio. Iam sure when I start working on my e-portfolio something will come up... Till then I understand what needs to be done and how to do it for the most part.
I do not have any questions at the moment however I am certain something will come up once I start designing the portfolio.
ReplyDeleteI don't have any questions as of right now. After watching the first two videos I've decided that it would be much easier for anyone trying to figure any of this out to just look over the PDFs. I'm sure some problems will come up when I actually try to put my e-portfolio together, nothing that will make my head spin though.
ReplyDeleteon the e portfolio home page, how can you get pull down menus off your 3 main subjects?
ReplyDeleteI don't think i have any questions at the moment...I have figured out how to do most things from what I remember in class and just trying some things out. However, was there an e-mail address for any questions we may have?
ReplyDeleteAs of this time... i don't have any questions or concerns, but im sure later on that will change and i will be sure to either review the pdf files, come to you, or contact the tech support for it. Thank you, Dr. Wallace!
ReplyDeleteI thought our speaker last week was very helpful in explaining the technical aspects of the e-portfolio. The one question I had, about adding things to the "About Me" pull-down, was answered in the tutorial video. So I think I'm good to go!
ReplyDeleteI can think of many questions. One that I do have is, once we have done everything that is asked in the 5 tutorials, do we then e-mail you that public URL? and then we are done with this project?
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I have to say about the eportfolio is that it is deceptively time consuming. I do believe that there is a market for such a thing, but it almost feels like this was the precursor to the precursor to ... a professional facebook, but without the wall.
ReplyDeleteSo far so good on the tutorials, but I'm sure I will have questions at some point. Jason did a great job trying to explain the Eportfolio the best he could, with the limited time he had.
ReplyDeleteI don't really have any questions so far about the e-Portfolio. The videos are pretty straightforward, and I know where to go if I need help. I think the whole process is a little obtuse, though probably good for people who don't know anything about computers/web design.
ReplyDeleteI really have no questions after watching the videos.

I wasn't able to watch the tutorials, but I read the PDF files. I'm still going to have to play around with it, but I'm certain it can all be figured out by referring to the tutorials and PDF files...
ReplyDeleteI had a question about the content of our portfolios. I don't have a lot of evidence because my last computer crashed a year ago and it has the previous three years of work on it, and it's a mac so I don't know how to retrieve the work. Should I just do what I can with what I have or should I try finding hard copies from my files and scan them?
ReplyDeleteThe tutorials themselves were helpful and I have my notes from the class presentation. I am actually looking forward to building this thing I just want it to look more rounded out.
